Hurricane Iniki and I

A true story by Bob Ward

Untitled Document

In September of 1992 Hurricane Iniki struck Hawaii. Iniki is still the most destructive storm to ever strike the state. The strongest, the most intense, of the strong winds centered on the island of Kauai. The NOAA image below dramatically shows Kauai at the center of the storm.

A few miles off the coast of Kauai the fishing boat Half Moon Bay, with three crew members aboard and a hold full of prize Ono, desperately tried to return to harbor before the brunt of the storm struck.

Bob Ward was one of those crew members. This is Bob's story written in his own words not long after he was rescued by the US Coast Guard.
